Privacy Policy — Vaani

Vaani ("the Service", "we", "us") is a text-to-speech assistant. You send it text or a document over WhatsApp (or Telegram), and it replies with a voice note that reads your content aloud. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By messaging Vaani, you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

We keep data collection to the minimum needed to provide the Service.

Your identifier. When you message us, the messaging platform (WhatsApp or Telegram) gives us the identifier you contact us with — your WhatsApp phone number or Telegram user ID — and, where the platform provides it, your display name or username. We use this only to recognise you and store your preferences.
Message content you send (processed, not stored). The text of your messages and the text extracted from documents you upload are processed only to generate your voice note. We do not retain the content of your messages, your uploaded documents, or the generated audio after your request is fulfilled — they are handled in memory and discarded.
Your preferences. We store your voice/speech settings (chosen voice, speed, pitch, and whether conversational rewriting is enabled) so they persist between messages.

We do not collect your contacts or location, we do not use your data for advertising, and we never sell it.

2. How we use your information

recognise you and apply your saved voice preferences;
convert your text or document into a spoken voice note and send it back;
optionally improve the phrasing of your text for more natural speech when you have enabled "conversation mode";
operate, secure, and debug the Service.

3. Third-party services (sub-processors)

To deliver your voice note, your content is sent to third-party providers strictly for processing on our behalf. We share only what is needed to perform the task — never more.

These providers process data under their own privacy policies. We limit what we send them to the content required for the requested conversion. On request, we can provide a current list of named sub-processors at contact@akhilsingh.in.

4. Data storage and retention

Message and document content: not stored; processed transiently and discarded after your voice note is sent.
Generated audio: not stored.
Your identifier and preferences: stored on our self-managed database until you request deletion or the Service is discontinued.

5. Security

Data in transit is protected with encryption (HTTPS/TLS). Inbound platform requests are authenticated (e.g. signature verification on WhatsApp webhooks), and access to stored data is restricted to the operator. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

6. Your rights and choices

Stop using the Service at any time by no longer messaging it; you may also block the number on WhatsApp.
Request deletion of your stored identifier and preferences by emailing contact@akhilsingh.in. We will delete them within a reasonable period.
Access or correction: contact us at the address above with any request about your data.

7. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age required by your local law (e.g. 13, or 16 in parts of the EEA), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has used the Service, contact us and we will delete the associated data.

8. International users

The Service may process and store data on infrastructure located in different countries than yours. By using the Service you consent to such processing.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Effective date" above reflects the latest version. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
